The new RebbeSoul single
just went to radio a few days
ago here in Israel.
It has already been put on the
playlists of some of the biggest
stations in the country!
It's world music featuring
musicians and singers from
Africa, Israel, UK, USA
and South America
all singing in their native
languages
Tzena Tzena is a pre-Israel song, written in 1941 by Issachar
Miron and Yechiel Hagiz, both in the Jewish Brigade of the British
Army at the time. It became an instant hit among the soldiers and
the people in Palestine.
In 1950, the Weavers with Pete Seeger recorded it and it became
an enormous hit in the USA, recorded by not only the Weavers but
Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Pearl Baily,
and Chubby Checker, just to name a few.
The song has not been done in a long time and I recorded a
RebbeSoul, world music, version featuring musicians and singers
from South America, Africa, the UK, USA, and Israel, singing in
their native languages. It was a fascinating project for me and all
the way through, I was in touch with Issachar Miron who wrote the
original music around 70 years ago, as a young lad of 20 or so.
Issachar is 91 now.
For those of you who have been enjoying the amazing voice of
Shlomit, you will be pleased to know that she is the female vocalist
on the song!
